New researches show that stem cells might be responsible for human lifespan. Recent discoveries show that injecting both female and male mice with estrogen makes them produce more stem cells. That is leading to assumptions that estrogen may be the reason why women live longer than men. Increasing estrogen in mice showed that the number of their stem cells in blood grew, but also, their brain stem cells had better regenerative capacity.
Studies have also found that non-castrated men live around 14 years shorter than eunuchs. This discovery will surely help in further exploration of this subject.
However, it is yet to be explored how big exactly is the connection between stem cells and longevity of life.
